The Realm of Colour, The Ground of Plainness
从色入境，由技还素。
Through colour into the realm; through craft, back to the plain.
东方艺廊是世界鉴赏家盛典于「Galerie 艺廊世界」下推出的2026年度策展叙事。它重读而非复制1878年巴黎世界博览会 Galerie orientale 的历史，在文明交汇的香港，让东方成为书写自身当代美学的主体，展开一场流动的当代东方文艺复兴。
Oriental Gallery is TFOC’s 2026 curatorial narrative within its Galerie realm. Revisiting rather than replicating the history of the Galerie orientale at the 1878 Paris Exposition Universelle, it positions the East as the author of its own contemporary aesthetics in Hong Kong, a meeting point of civilizations—a living, fluid renaissance.
世界最先以颜色抵达我们，而东方审美最终回到本色。佛家语境中，「色」指眼所见，「境」指感官所及；《论语》的「绘事后素」与《易经》的「白贲」，引领观者越过繁饰、回到本色。生丝、生麻、生漆是未经加工的「生」之素；漂练去色，则是经由技术而得的「熟」之素。编麻、髹漆、研墨与分色、漂白，让古老技艺与现代技术相遇。由技成器，器中见道。技术在此不是炫技，而是让颜色退去、让本真显现的方法。
The world first reaches us as colour; Eastern aesthetics ultimately returns to plainness. In Buddhist thought, se refers to what is seen, while jing describes the realm of sensation. The Analects’ idea of painting upon a plain ground and the Book of Changes’ notion of plain adornment lead beyond ornament toward the essential. Raw silk, ramie and lacquer are plain because they have not been worked; scoured and bleached cloth achieves plainness through technique. Weaving, lacquering and ink grinding meet modern colour separation and bleaching. Craft becomes an object, and in the object the way can be seen. Technique is not a display of virtuosity, but a means for colour to recede and the underlying nature to emerge.

To Appreciate the Extraordinary, First Understand Its Creation
非凡之作，不止于成品本身。其背后，是艺术家用知识和艺术学理对时代的创造与回应，以及完整艺术逻辑的建立。艺术价值亦不止于价格，而是在笃定的逻辑线索中珍视生活和艺术。两场圆桌从创作者现场走向价值现场，讨论艺术如何为价值和生活赋能。
An extraordinary work extends beyond its finished form. Behind it lies an artist’s response to the times, shaped by knowledge, artistic inquiry and a coherent creative logic. Artistic value likewise reaches beyond price: it concerns how we cherish life and art through a sustained line of thought. Two roundtables move from the creative process to the question of value, exploring how art enriches both.

Yang Mian joins chef Deng Huadong and Kay Tu in a discussion moderated by Fan Li of Tatler China. Bringing together culinary and artistic perspectives, the conversation explores the logic of creation, unexpected paths and choices behind a finished work.

Yang Mian speaks with Frankie Fang, an unconventional investor who collects art through personal conviction. Bringing an artist together with a collector of his work, the discussion considers acquiring art, living with art, and the distinction between artistic value and market price. When an artwork becomes an asset, what should we truly cherish?
